The Best Vacuum Under $200 Reviews

5. Bissell PowerEdge Pet 81L2A

best vacuum under 200The Bissell PowerEdge has been featured before on Freshly Clean Home on our best laminate floor vacuums list. It’s a compact little vacuum that’s specifically designed for hardwood, laminate and tile floors. It can handle some minor work on very low pile carpet, but this vacuum definitely cannot do medium to large pile carpet at all. It’s on the cheaper side because it’s designed to be the everyday quick pick-me-up vacuum you use (not the deep clean vacuum).

The PowerEdge has a fun and unique V-shaped design that sucks smaller debris up on the sides and pushed larger debris toward the center where the suction is most powerful. It’s a clever way to maximize the cleaning strokes of a vacuum (so you make fewer passes around your floors).

If you’re a pet owner, you’ll love this PowerEdge vacuum. Instead of a rotating brush which wraps and tangles all taht pet hair, Bissell attached a thin strip of charger rubber on the back end. This works kind of like static electricity (you know when you rub a balloon on your head and it sticks your hair up?) to attract pet hair to it instead of tangling it. Genius right?! All you have to do is wipe clean every once in a while.

Although the vacuum is corded it is still easy-to-use. With a 20-foot cord the stick vacuum is capable of getting around fairly well. The shorter cord length is one of the biggest drawbacks of the Bissell because it forces you to change outlets more frequently than we’d like to see. Ideally, this cord should have been 30 feet.

The Bissell is extremely lightweight weighing in at only 7 pounds, so there’s no reason to keep it sitting still. It maneuvers well when it is time to clean, working well on hard surfaces as a quick picker upper.

The other two smaller aspects that aren’t great are the lack of HEPA filtering and limited usability under furniture. The HEPA filter won’t affect everyone, but for a select few it’s a huge deal-breaker. And because of the unique V-nozzle design, the Bissell won’t lay flat and squeeze under furniture as well as some other models we’ve seen.

These definitely aren’t the worst drawbacks we’ve seen for a cheaper vacuum. The suction is still pretty good and the price is definitely worth considering if you don’t want to always drag out the 30 lb monster vacuum for small clean up jobs.

There is a one-year warranty included with the vacuum cleaner. This manufacturer’s warranty protects against parts and labor damage.

4. Dirt Devil Simpli-Stik : The Ultimate Budget Vacuum

best vacuum under 200Dirt Devil Simpli Stik is an ideal bagless stick vacuum developed to use in low pile rugs and hard floors. It features an easy hand lift vacuum system. Detach the hands and start cleaning the house whether it is dirt, fur, liquids or anything else.

This 3 in 1 vacuum cleaner is lightweight, corded and developed for hardwood. You can detach the middle of the vacuum from the frame and transform this stick vacuum into a hand vacuum. An included crevice tool turns the hand vacuum into a convenient edge-cleaning vacuum that can get into spaces too small for the larger vacuum head to reach.

Right now, this is by far the cheapest vacuum on our list. But that’s not to say it can’t handle the job. For most types of messes (crushed food, dirt, glitter, hair, etc.) this little vacuum will do very well for you. This also isn’t meant to be your “deep cleaning destroyer” vacuum that sucks up the long lost temples of dirt in the carpet. It’s another quick picker upper type vacuum that’ll do very well for the price.

The Dirt Devil Simpli Stik weighs as little as 3.8 pounds, making it one of the lightest stick vacuums on the market and a light as air to carry up a set of stairs or from room to room. The cord is 16 feet long, which is a bit shorter than many other vacuum cleaners available in market, so you’ll definitely have to switch plugs when you’re trying to clean large spaces.

The Dirt Devil vacuum is designed without a brush roll, which ensures that when you use it as a wood floor vacuum, your floor will stay scratch-free. The downside to this design is that the vacuum won’t be able to clean carpet effectively. Its 1.25 ampere motor is not powerful enough to pull dirt out of medium or high pile carpet, so you should use it primarily as a hard surface vacuum.

With a medium sized 9 inch wide head, you will find yourself making several extra passes to clean a room than you would with a standard sized vacuum. This hard floor vacuum does not feature side or edge suction, but the handheld option lets you access tight spaces and firm corners.

The Simple-Stik is not HEPA rated, but comes with a simple filter that you’ll need to wash and dry occasionally to keep the suction strong.

You can check out more about the Simple-Stik on Amazon.

3. Shark Navigator Lift-Away Pro: The All-Around Pro

best vacuum under 200The Shark Navigator is one of the best choices when it comes to vacuum cleaners. There are so many great things about this vacuum that it’s made its place in one of the best and most affordable vacuums cleaners out on the market. It is an upright vacuum with good suction and flexibility with attachments to accommodate most homes. The most popular vacuum design, uprights usually provide a larger brush head and is an ideal option for deep cleaning.

Upright vacuums offer the most power and usually have larger bags than canister vacuums, which mean the bags do not have to be changed as frequently. On the other hand, uprights are not the best choice for vacuuming stairs or under furniture. These models also tend to be heavier than other vacuum types.

The Navigator has a traditional filtration technology – this type of filter is commonly found in basic models: the intake air is shot through a thin cotton or paper to trap dirt and dust. What’s also great is it has a HEPA filter that many consumers need for allergies. If you need HEPA, the Navigator is the best option on our list.

There are plenty of reasons why so many people love the Shark Navigator Lift Away Upright Vacuum cleaner. First, you can always count on this cleaner to get deep down inside of your floors to get even the tiniest of dust particles. It works perfectly on all types of carpet and even features a dust away bare floor tool that comes with microfiber pads. Self-described as “intense carpet cleaning” there is never any dirt left behind using the Shark vacuum cleaner.

Not only will the Navigator always perform to the highest of suction standards, it is also easy to use. The swivel steering design is to thank here as it easily turns corners and cleans even the hardest to reach places in your home. You can save a lot of time when you have a vacuum cleaner made to go with you!

Sometimes a vacuum cleaner can stir dust and particles around your carpet and your home rather than deposit it into its canister. This can cause allergies to worsen or even develop. It also makes the air that the entire household is breathing in dangerous.

The Shark vacuum cleaner puts an end to that. The cleaner features Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology to insure that all of those dirty particles are trapped inside of the vacuum and never circle around your home. This feature provides a 99. 9% reduction in the allergens in your home, with research that proves this capability.

The only real challenge with the Navigator is the price. It’s still under the $200 mark for this list, but it’s on the upper end of the spectrum. It also is a little heavier so using this on stairs may be tough, but it has a hose attachment that can help.

2. Hoover Sprint Quick Lightweight Bagless Vacuum:

best vacuum under 200At number 2 in our Top 5 list is Hoover Sprint. The multi-cyclonic technology of Hoover Sprint filter the different items being picked up, so you do not lose suction power. A stretch hose gives you up to 7 feet to move above the ground, and removable wand allows for floor to ceiling clean up, making any job seem virtually simple with this vacuum. It comes with a 7 foot flexible hose where you can attach the wand and various tools (combination crevice and brush) to clean areas above the floor like blinds, tables, chairs, baseboards, etc. So in essence this is a 2-in-1 vacuum but with some limitations.

The Hoover can perform extremely well in almost all conditions, bare floor, carpets, corners, high and hidden places which normally cannot be cleaned with other vacuum cleaners. It comes with different configuration options on the go for example to use on hard floor, setting it up on low power will do extremely well cleaning and etc. Based on reviews by users, suction is great and works well on hard surfaces because it has a motorized brush that will pick up smaller pieces of dirt as well as an add on wand + crevice/brush tool for larger bits of dirt like cheerios or paper clips.

The flexible hose is thick enough to handle larger bits of items but my pet peeve here is the relatively short 5 foot hose and wand. You still need to bend down to be able to use the wand on the floor as it is only designed to clean above the floor areas like the wall or table.

The Hoover has two other height settings for carpet and those are medium and high for different pile carpet. While Hoover may say this will clean all types of carpet from thin to plush carpets, users were not sure about this area here. One other problem with the Hoover Sprint is that it is very small and bag less; its suction cup gets filled pretty quickly. So while cleaning larger rooms or house, you may need to empty the cup more than once.

The Hoover Sprint comes in at a very good price point which is why it made 2nd on our list. Not many vacuums can pack the features for this price range.

1. Bissell Clean View 9595A.

best vacuum under 200At the number one spot on our list of best vacuum under $200, we have the Bissell CleanView 9595A with OnePass technology. That’s a mouthful, but it really is a fantastic vacuum for the price.

Bissell uses lightweight, powerful suction, and an innovative brush design, which gives you more mobility and leverage in every room of cleaning. The cyclonic system features powerful suction, a turbo brush is used for stairs or hair on furniture, and you can empty the dirt tank with the touch of a button. Cleaning house was never so easy, but with Bissell Clean View it is now in reach of every house hold, at a very affordable price.

The Bissell Clean View is an extremely powerful, lightweight, gorgeous looking, smartly designed vacuum cleaner. This vacuum cleaner does extremely well in almost all the areas of cleaning a house. Hard floor, carpets, stairs, corners, any place you name it, this cleaner cleans it in matter of minutes.

The main feature of the Clean View is the redesigned brush roll that according to Bissell will “pick up more” in the initial pass (thus it’s called OnePass). It can work extremely well on carpets because of this newly designed brush. Thanks to its innovative design, almost any particle in carpets can be cleaned instantly. It has a nice size 25 foot cord but it is not retractable so you will have to manually wrap the cord around the cord wraps.

It won’t be as effective on hard surface as it would on carpet because you cannot turn off the motorized brush. This won’t be an issue on finer debris like dust or sand but it can be an issue with larger bits of debris like cheerio’s because the brush roll has a tendency to “fling” larger pieces of debris around instead of picking them up.

There are two filters in this vacuum, a post motor filter and a pre-motor filter. The post motor filter prevents dirt air from coming back out. This filter is not washable and needs to be replaced every 3 to 6 months. The pre-motor filter is located on top of the dirt cup and this is washable.

Bissell will give you a two year limited warranty. It’s been rated on Amazon over 8,000 times with 2/3rd of the people rating it 5 stars.

Vacuum Cleaner Buying Guide:

The first thing you need to consider is your budget. How much can you actually spend on a vacuum? Options exist in every category of price (we even have a guide on buying vacuums under $100) so make that decision first.

Second, you need to fully understand what type of floors you have in your home. That will determine which features in a vacuum should be most important. For example, if you have both carpet (medium to low pile) and hardwood floors, you need to prioritize the option to turn off the rotating brush on the vacuum. Brushes are great on carpet, but terrible on hardwood. So your vacuum needs that switch so you can effectively handle your whole house.

Third, you’ll want to consider filtration on the vacuum. Are you someone who has lots of allergies? If so, a HEPA filter should be a priority to you to prevent particles from flying into the air. HEPA filters help block much of the allergy causing particles from shooting out of the vacuum and up in the air. Many manufacturers have HEPA as options now and specifically point out this feature as a selling point.

Lastly, you’ll want to make the personal choice of bagged or bagless vacuum cleaner. Both have their pros and cons so this truly is personal. Do you want better sealing of the dirt and are OK changing bags? Then a quality bagged vacuum is for you. If you value the quick and easy cleaning of bagless vacuums, then go for that.
